THE PROBLEM AT THE WHEEL-END

YOU'RE PAYING TO REPLACE PARTS THAT SHOULD STILL BE WORKING.

Modern wheel-end components are supposedly engineered to last hundreds of thousands of miles, yet premature failure is commonplace. Why?

We went deep into the data and discovered a closely guarded secret...

PARTS AREN'T THE PROBLEM. ITS THE UNCONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT THEY LIVE IN.

Even the best bearings, seals, and lubricants struggle to reach their intended service life in a contaminated environment. Dirt, water, road debris, and microscopic wear metals circulate through the hub, turning clean lubricant into an abrasive slurry that works against every component it touches.

The damage builds gradually. Wear creates debris. Debris creates more wear. The deterioration cycle compounds until a wheel-end that appeared healthy is suddenly back in the shop for a repair that should not have been necessary yet.

THE SOLUTION

IF WE CONTROL THE ENVIRONMENT WE CAN CONTROL THE OUTCOME.

A Controlled Operating Environment™ (COE) slows the wheel-end deterioration cycle by removing harmful contaminants that cause premature wear.

HexThread® Cartridge

A patent-pending mechanism to enable front access for inspections, oil changes, or filter replacement without the need to remove or replace the entire hub cap.

BETTER ACCESS

Leave the hub body in place. Access and inspect from the front.

CLEANER SERVICE

Inspect, drain, and change hub oil faster and with less mess.

FASTER REPAIRS

If damage occurs, just replace the cartridge - the hub cap body is still good.

SIMPLER SERVICE

Threaded front-access makes maintenance and repairs simple, fast, and clean. Leave the hub cap body mounted in place, leave the flange gasket undisturbed.

Faqs

How is The Xtractor different from a standard hub cap?

A standard hub cap mainly retains oil and helps prevent leaks. The Xtractor does more than cover the hub. It acts as a service and lubricant-control platform, using the HexThread® Front Access Cartridge and integrated filtration to help manage oil condition, reduce service exposure, and capture harmful particles inside the lubricant environment.

How does The Xtractor help reduce contamination?

The Xtractor helps reduce contamination with an integrated Multi-Stage Filter to capture harmful particles that manage to find their way into the wheel hub from outside and any internally generated wear metals.

Why does reducing contamination matter?

Bearings are designed to operate with a stable lubricant film separating critical surfaces. When abrasive contaminants and wear metals circulate through the oil, they can disrupt that film, increase friction, generate heat, and accelerate surface damage. Cleaner oil helps the bearing operate closer to the conditions it was designed for, supporting more predictable service life.

Does The Xtractor make bearings last longer?

The Xtractor does not change the bearing’s load rating, material, or geometry. Instead, it helps preserve the operating conditions bearings need to reach their intended service life. By reducing abrasive contaminants, supporting cleaner lubricant, and limiting service-related exposure, The Xtractor helps reduce the conditions that contribute to premature bearing wear.

What is the HexThread® Front Access Cartridge?

The HexThread® Cartridge is the front-access service point built into The Xtractor. It allows oil inspection, draining, and replacement through the face of the hub cap rather than requiring the technician to remove the entire hub cap. This helps reduce labor time, limit contamination exposure, and make service more repeatable from one technician or location to another.

Is The Xtractor compatible with existing wheel-end designs?

The Xtractor is designed as a practical upgrade for existing wheel-end architectures. It does not require redesigning the hub, bearing, or axle system. Fitment depends on the specific hub cap model, bolt pattern, and application, so fleets and dealers should confirm the correct Xtractor model for their equipment.

Is The Xtractor only for fleets?

No. The Xtractor is valuable for fleets, owner-operators, dealers, and maintenance providers. Fleets benefit from reduced labor time, more predictable maintenance, and improved uptime across many units. Owner-operators benefit from easier service and cleaner oil management. Dealers and service providers benefit from a more efficient, repeatable maintenance process.

Does The Xtractor eliminate the need for wheel-end maintenance?

No. The Xtractor does not eliminate maintenance. It makes maintenance faster, cleaner, and more controlled. Wheel ends still require proper inspection, lubrication, and service intervals, but The Xtractor is designed to reduce the time and exposure associated with those service events.

What is the financial benefit of The Xtractor?

The financial benefit comes from reduced labor time, less downtime, cleaner service, and improved wheel-end reliability. Faster front-access service can reduce the cost of routine inspection and oil maintenance, while cleaner lubricant may help reduce premature wear of critical components. Across a fleet, those savings can compound through improved technician efficiency, fewer service bottlenecks, and more predictable maintenance planning.

What is meant by the “Controlled Operating Environment™”?

Controlled Operating Environment™ is The Hub Corporation’s system-level approach to wheel-end reliability. Instead of only focusing on stronger parts, COE focuses on controlling the conditions that determine how those parts perform: contamination, lubricant integrity, moisture exposure, and service consistency. The Xtractor supports COE by controlling the hubcap side of the wheel end through cleaner service access and integrated filtration.
