Faqs
What makes Vytor different from other wheel seals?
Vytor is designed to do more than retain lubricant and block outside contamination. In addition to a multi-lip dirt exclusion system, Vytor includes the integrated VXR™ Filter, which helps capture wear metals and abrasive particles inside the wheel end before they continue circulating through the lubricant.
What does the VXR Filter do?
The VXR™ Filter adds an internal line of defense inside the wheel hub. It captures abrasive debris, wear metals, and particles that may enter during service or form during normal operation, helping keep damaging contaminants out of circulation and away from critical bearing and sealing surfaces.
How does Vytor keep dirt and road contamination out?
Vytor uses a staged dirt exclusion system with multiple lips, including bumper lips, axial dirt lips, and a radial dirt lip. These barriers work together to help block road spray, dirt, water, and debris before contaminants can reach the primary sealing zone.
What is HNBR and why is it used?
HNBR is Vytor’s high-performance elastomer compound. It is formulated for the demanding wheel-end environment, including heat, lubricant exposure, dynamic wear, and long-term sealing force. This helps the seal maintain performance in heavy-duty operating conditions.
Does Vytor require a special installation tool?
No dedicated seal driver is required. Vytor is designed for simple hand installation. Lightly lubricate, align the seal squarely with the hub bore, and press it evenly into place by hand.
How do I choose the correct Vytor seal?
Select the Vytor model that matches your wheel-end dimensions and application. The key measurements are hub bore ID, spindle OD, and seal depth. Vytor part numbers closely mirror the OD of the spindle, e.g. 3.5" spindle is VF350.
What is the financial benefit of Vytor?
The financial benefit comes from reduced labor time, less downtime, and improved wheel-end reliability. Across a fleet, those savings can compound through improved technician efficiency, fewer service bottlenecks, and more predictable maintenance planning.
What is meant by the “Controlled Operating Environment™”?
Controlled Operating Environment™ is The Hub Corporation’s system-level approach to wheel-end reliability. Instead of only focusing on stronger parts, COE focuses on controlling the conditions that determine how those parts perform: contamination, lubricant integrity, moisture exposure, and service consistency. Vytor supports COE by controlling the seal side of the hub with integrated contamination capture.
